RCMH has recently purchased a new bladder scanner . The BioCon-500 is a portable ultrasound system intended to measure the volume of the bladder. This will tremendously help in day to day proceedures . A bladder scan is used in the following cases:
•To measure the amount of urine left in the bladder after passing urine (residual)
•To verify an empty bladder or urine retention
•To identify a blockage in an indwelling catheter
•To check bladder distension and decide if a catheter is needed
Many women who undergo gynaecological and repair surgery have a catheter placed into the bladder during the operation to drain urine. The catheter is removed one to two (or sometimes more) days after surgery.
It is important to not let your bladder fill with too much urine after surgery, so the nurses will check your bladder once the catheter is removed.
A non-invasive way to check bladder emptying is the use of a portable ultrasound instrument called the Bladder Scan. This scanner can prevent unnecessary catheterization, and reduce the incidence of catheter-related urinary tract infections.
The Bladder Scanner measures bladder volume by the use of ultrasound.
Human bone is as strong as granite in supporting weight. A block of bone the size of a matchbox can support 9 tonnes – that is four times as much as concrete can support.
Each kidney contains 1 million individual filters. They filter an average of around 1.3 liters (2.2 pints) of blood per minute, and expel up to 1.4 liters (2.5 pints) a day of urine.
